Fosa (Habituated)
Superb animal. Living at low densities and in forest it’s usually very difficult to see; but at Kirindy Reserve one or two trip the light fantastic around the park accommodation first and last thing. I was very excited by this encounter, my first.
Roughly chunky terrier size it's found only in Madagascar and is its largest wild carnivore. It's active both day and night and able to climb and leap around in trees in hot pursuit of mammals, lizards and birds. Numbers continue to decline owing to habitat loss and hunting by locals anxious to protect their poultry.
